The Prayer Garden

The Passion of Christ. Does this evoke vague memories from our childhood, perhaps something we heard at Sunday school but of no meaning to our lives now?

What does the image of Jesus as the Man of Sorrows say to us?

Do we think of His power to transform and free us from chains?

So much – in fact, everything – in our lives depends on what the Passion of Christ means to us.

When Jesus is depicted as the Man of Sorrows, this is not just a metaphor or fiction. We are talking about something that actually happened.

Here is Someone who bore pain and agony, and triumphed over sin and suffering.

Here is the One whom the Bible calls the fairest of the sons of men, radiating love and dignity in the face of untold pain, humiliation and disappointment.

His love is the greatest force in heaven and on earth, helping us in all our troubles and kindling us with love for God and others.

In the peaceful surroundings of the Garden of Jesus' Sufferings and Resurrection we are invited to a fresh encounter with the Man of Sorrows, as we accompany Him in spirit from Gethsemane to Calvary.
Is it nothing to you, all you who pass by?
Look and see if there is any sorrow like my sorrow.
